VB.NET Programming

Visual Basic.NET was the sequel to Visual Basic 6.0 with changes made to incorporate features of the .NET Framework and Web services. The next version to be released was Visual Basic.NET 2003. (Visual Basic 6 is a separate Web site.) You can install Visual Basic.NET on Windows 2000 Professional, or Windows XP but it will not work well on Windows 98 operating systems and is not recommended for use on any Windows 98 machine.
Visual Basic.NET 2003 is also a component of Visual Studio .NET 2003 from Microsoft. Visual Basic.NET is still packaged in several "flavors": Learning Edition, Standard Edition, Professional Edition, Enterprise edition, etc... Beginning Students will be able to use the Learning Edition or the Standard Edition without any probelms IF the correct files are downloaded and installed on your home computer before attempting to install Visual Basic.NET 2003. See the installation information at Microsoft.com's developer site for Visual Basic.NET.
Programs compiled in VB 6.0 will not run under VB.NET nor VB.NET 2003. When the Visual Basic version changed between VB 6.0 to VB.NET there were core language changes made at the same time and Visual Basic became more of an OOP language with provisions written into the language for inheritance.
